Apr 09, 2019 : Remember the Koffee With Karan episode with Anurag Kashyap and Anushka Sharma just before Bombay Velvet came out? Apart from Anushka Sharma’s lips, another highlight of the show was Kashyap’s rapid fire. In one of the answers, he said that next time Kareena Kapoor should ask what is the movie instead of who is in the movie reported Yahoo.
Looks like, Kareena is actually taking that advice. At least her latest selection of scripts tends to point in that direction.
In the last two years, Kareena has not only reduced the number of films, but she has mostly been seen in films where her only job was to add star value to the film. For an actress who has mesmerized the audiences with the power of pure performance in films like Chameli, Jab We Met or Omkara, it was hard to digest her in empty roles like that in Bajraangi Bhaijaan or Gabbar Is Back. In fact, in the last few years, it is perhaps only Udta Punjab where we felt like she was doing a film because she cared about the character.
But since last year things have changed and it is evident. After a small maternity break, Kareena returned to the screen with a film like Veere Di Wedding. If you observe her filmography intently, you will understand why it was a big deal. Despite all her versatility, Kareena has hardly played a role where she was not prim and proper. Veere Di Wedding was a major departure from that. Honestly, it was a little shocking to see Kareen Kapoor Khan cursing like a sailor. Also, by working opposite Sumeet Vyas in Veere Di Wedding, Kareena quietly announced that she is giving up on her rule to only act opposite A-listers.
Not just Veere Di Wedding, Kareena will soon be seen in Takht where she will be playing the role of Jahanara Begum. Not only the character has a lot of meat to sink her teeth into, but it is also for the first time that Kareena will be seen in a period drama for the very first time. While we understand that Karan Johar must have played a part in convincing Bebo for the part, it is interesting to see her venturing into new territories.
It is also noteworthy that apart from Kabhie Khushi Kabhie Gham in the initial stages of her career, she has hardly ever been a part of multi-starrer. But Veere Di Wedding and Takht are multi-starrers and Kareena does not seem to have a problem with that. In fact, another upcoming film of Kareena, Good News is also a multi-starrer.
To be honest, we are totally in love with this new version of Kareena Kapoor who seems to be more focused, more selective (for the right reasons) and more open to exploring new opportunities. God knows we have been missing the Kareena Kapoor from Jab We Met or Omkara.
