Bengaluru, January 24, 2025: Renowned Kannada actor Kichcha Sudeep has declined the Karnataka State Film Award for Best Actor, just a day after the announcement of the 2019 awards.
In a statement shared on X (formerly Twitter), Sudeep expressed gratitude for the honor but reiterated a personal policy he adopted years ago of not accepting awards. He wrote, “While I feel privileged to have received the state award, I decided long ago to stop receiving awards for personal reasons. I stand by that decision.”
The much-anticipated Karnataka State Film Awards for 2019 were announced on Wednesday. Sudeep earned the Best Actor title for his role in Pailwan, where he portrayed an orphan who rises to become a wrestler and boxer.

It is truly a privilege to have received the state award under the best actor category, and I extend my heartfelt thanks to the respected jury for this honor. However, I must express that I have chosen to stop receiving…
Acknowledging the jury’s recognition, Sudeep said, “I am grateful to every jury member for selecting me. This recognition itself is my reward.” He also apologized to the jury and the state government, stating, “I sincerely apologize for any disappointment my decision may cause and trust you will respect my choice and support the path I have chosen.”
Fans took to social media to support Sudeep’s decision, praising his humility and integrity.
M. Narasimhalu, president of the Karnataka Film Chamber of Commerce, commented on the broader intent of the awards, saying, “The motive is to encourage and appreciate artistes.” He refrained from directly addressing Sudeep’s decision, acknowledging it as a personal choice.
This isn’t the first time Sudeep has declined an accolade. In August 2024, he turned down an honorary doctorate from Tumakuru University, citing a lack of significant societal contributions and emphasizing that his work was driven by personal satisfaction. He highlighted the need to recognize those who tirelessly work for society’s betterment.
Most recently, Sudeep starred in Max, directed by Vijay Karthikeyan. The film, released last month, has been a major box-office success.
