New Year’s Eve 2015: See how 2016 was welcomed in the UK and around the world

Jan 01, 2015: 2016 got off to a colourful start as the world welcomed the new year with an explosion of fireworks.

 

 

 

 

 

Thousands of revellers looked to the night sky above London as it was illuminated by a spectacular display.

Crowds gathered on the banks of the Thames and in city centres across the UK to see the start of 2016.

Many braved the intermittent spells of rain awaiting a midnight display featuring around 12,000 fireworks which produced 50,000 projectiles

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

The Edinburgh Hogmanay also saw several firework displays above the city’s castle, as well as a performance from Scottish rockers Biffy Clyro.

Parisians defiantly took to the streets of the French capital just weeks after devastating terror attacks claimed the lives of 130 people.

Brazil kicked off an exciting year - in which the country will host the 2016 Olympics - with its traditional party on Copacabana beach, in Rio.
