New Delhi, Nov 16: The controversy and protests surrounding Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s film Padmavati is intensifying with each passing day. Rajput organisation Karni Sena, which is spearheading the protests against the film, has now threatened Deepika Padukone to chop-off her nose if the film is released.
“Rajputs never raise a hand on women but if need be, we will do to Deepika what Lakshman did to Shurpanakha,” Mahipal Singh Makrana of Rajput Karni Sena said. Makrana’s threat came just hours after Lokendra Singh Kalvi, a senior leader of the Rajput group, called for nation-wide strike on December 1, the date Padmavati is scheduled to be released.
“We will gather in lakhs, our ancestors wrote history with blood. We will not let anyone blacken it. Will call for Bharat bandh on 1 December,” Lokendra Singh Kalvi said.
Kalvi had earlier used derogatory word like ‘naachnewali‘ for Deepika Padukone for her statement that the country is becoming regressive.
“The country is not regressing, you are making it so. I beg Deepika not to insult women. Deepika is seen dancing with fewer clothes in the film. How are you trying to portray the Indian women?” Kalvi told a TV channel.
“Deepika is like a daughter. She should exercise restraint,” Kalvi said and while claiming that Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s movie was financed by “underworld”.
The movie which stars Deepika Padukone as Padmavati, has triggered a massive controversy with various Rajput groups, including the Karni Sena, threatening to disrupt the screening of the movie, accusing Bhansali of “distorting” historical facts.
Bhansali and his team have repeatedly assured that there are no romantic scenes between Rani Padmavati, played by Deepika Padukone, and Alauddin Khilji, played by Ranveer Singh. The movie also stars Shahid Kapoor in the role Raja Rawal Ratan Singh.
