July 16, 2016: Sunny Leone, despite a Bollywood debut that was just 4 years ago in 2012, is India’s most popular actress. According to Google search data for 2006 to 2016, Leone has been the actress ruling the imagination of India’s Bollywood fans. She leads the chart of the most searched actress on Google for the last 10 years. Among the leading men, Salman Khan leads the chart, notes a Google report.

 

"Salman Khan and Sunny Leone took out the top spots for the most searched-for Bollywood actor and actress in the last 10 years, Honey Singh and Prabhu Deva were the top singer and Director, while Amitabh Bachchan and  Rekha were the most searched for classic actor and actress," said a Google spokesperson.

 

For many Indians, Google is often a gateway into the life and information about the Bollywood stars, who are incredibly popular in a country where the local movies -- and cricket -- are often religiously followed. On Twitter, for example, the most followed accounts from India are those maintained by Bollywood celebrities and every year Google’s annual search report highlights that the leading actors and actresses from Mumbai rule the imagination of the aam aadmi in India.

"Indians have been turning to the web to find out more about their favorite stars for over a decade now and we’ve been evolving Google Search to give them richer, better answers" said Google India’s marketing head Sapna Chadha. "With around 1 in 10 mobile searches in India related to Indian cinema, we recently launched a range of immersive Search experiences that give film lovers an easy way to discover and explore everything they want to know about their favorite movies, stars, music, dialogues actors and more."

Although India has seen a number of popular actors and actresses emerge in the last one year, Sunny Leone, because of her unusual career graph, is someone who has been in the limelight often, on some occasions wittingly on some unwittingly. Before she became a famous actress in Bollywood, Leone was a porn star. Her story and how she became a Bollywood star has not only fascinated many of her fans but has also kept her in the news.
