Jan 17, 2019 - Popstar Rihanna has filed a lawsuit against her father and his business partner for allegedly using her name to fraudulently make money. The singer has claimed that her father, Ronald Fenty, along with his business partner, Moses Perkins, have falsely used her name to represent their company’s affiliation with her.
The suit reads, "Although Mr Fenty is Rihanna’s father, he does not have, and never has had, authority to act on Rihanna’s behalf, nor has he ever been authorized to use her name, intellectual property or publicity rights." It further adds, "Similarly, neither Mr Perkins nor the Company has any affiliation whatsoever with Rihanna."
The venture in question is the Fenty Entertainment, a talent and production company that Fenty and Perkins launched back in 2017. Riri’s Fenty Beauty line of cosmetics also launched in the same year. Time and again, Rihanna has asked both Fenty and Perkins to avoid misrepresenting themselves and to "to cease and desist all activity and efforts to exploit Rihanna’s name and the goodwill associated with the Fenty brand." The singer has also alleged that her father and his business partner negotiated an unauthorized deal for Rihanna to perform in Latin America for $15 million! Along with this, they also negotiated a deal for a two 15-minute set at Calibash at Staples Center and T-Mobile Arena for $400,000.
In the suit, Riri is seeking for the pair to stop using her name or the Fenty brand in the future and also pay for the damages as well as attorney’s fees. Interestingly, back in 2012 interview with Oprah Winfrey, Rihanna had admitted that while Fenty had a bad relationship with her mother, he was a great father to her. "He taught me everything," She told Oprah on the show. "As awful as he was to my mom at times, it didn’t compare to how great he was as a father."
