’Mutant’ cow with fifth leg flopping from its back discovered on Chinese farm

China, Oct 12, 2017: A ’mutant’ cow with a fifth leg growing out of its back has been discovered in China.

 

Astonishing footage shows the animal’s fully formed trotter flopping around as the cow eats in a barn in Zhanjiang, China.

In the video, taken on September 24, the cameraman even picks up the animal’s extra limb and shakes it back and forth to prove it is in fact fully attached.

 

The cow has now reportedly become a tourist attraction in the town, after memorised people flocked to see it’s extra leg.

The animal is believed to have polymelia, an extremely rare disorder that causes extra limbs to form.

The condition is extremely uncommon and it is estimated that fewer that four in every 100,000 cattle born have it, according to National Geographic.

The livestock is not the first to be born with an extra leg.

In April another farmyard animal, born in Qinlong County in south west China, hit headlines because of its rare extra leg.

The cow actually had the ruminants of its unborn twin attached to its back.

The deformity is caused by an incomplete egg separation and the probability of this kind of fifth limb is just 0.03%, according to People’s Daily, China.

Another bizarre deformity was spotted in China after a ’ mutant turtle’ with two heads and six legs became a local celebrity.

The turtle was found in a pet shop and was visited by local people fascinated by the animal.
