Pune, OCt 15, 2021: The festival of Dussehra is here and it marks the end of the auspicious days of Navratri and Durga Puja today. Also called Vijaya Dashami, this day marks the triumph of good over evil. The festival is celebrated across the country with much fervour and enthusiasm and effigies of Ravana, Meghnath and Kumbhkarana are burnt.
So, on this auspicious occasion of Dussehra, the Mahalaxmi temple located in front of Sarasbagh, Pune is in the news. That is because the Mahalaxmi Devi idol in the temple has been dressed up in a whopping 16 kg gold saree. In a conversation with Aaj Tak, the trustee of the temple informed that this gold saree was donated by a devotee in the year 2011 who had it crafted by a goldsmith in South India. The same devotee gave this saree as an offering to the Goddess.
Gold jewellery and sarees are adorned every year on the auspicious days of Navratri and Diwali. The weight of the saree worn by the goddess was a massive 16 kg. The temple is following strict protocols and due care is being taken about the issue of overcrowding at the place during the Covid-19 pandemic.
Devotees have been flocking to the temple since morning for a glimpse of the magnificent idol and also for a ‘darshan’. Moreover, the lighting of Mahalaxmi temple is also spectacular.
