The oral oddity was posted by a Reddit user who said his friend’s brother thought it was "normal"

Dental problems are no one’s idea of fun.

But this unfortunate gentleman has found himself in a particularly gruesome situation.

As this picture posted on Reddit attests, he has a tooth growing from the roof of his mouth.

The oral oddity was flagged up by user alphasci, who tagged it with the caption: "So my friends (sic) brother has a tooth growing in the middle of the roof of his mouth. Apparently he thought it was normal to have one..."

After more than a thousand responses, most of which are an exclamation of horror, it is clear that very few people have encountered a ’roof tooth’ before.

Rogue nashers (known as ’supernumerary teeth’) are quite rare and are usually removed by a dentist under anaesthetic.
