Sep 11, 2014: Fat cat King Leo is following a strict exercise plan in a bid to shed the pounds.

Weighing 30lbs on his arrival to the Cat Shoppe Rescue centre, this overweight feline has been undergoing water treadmill treatments to fight the flab.

Leo was found meowing in a pet carrier on the road side by a motorist who had stopped to change a flat tyre.

His fur was severely matted and dirty with duct tape, rocks, sticks and feces stuck in the knots.

Hairy: King Leo before he had over 2lbs of fur shaved off

After carers made the decision to completely shave his hair, the massive moggy was instantly relieved of 2lbs worth of weight.

Leo’s carer at the centre - in Nashville, Tennessee - and now permanent owner LaTisha Lampley was shocked by the sheer size of the cat when he arrived at the Cat Shoppe.

"He is the biggest cat of his size frame that I have seen."

Now, on a strict diet, the not-so-furry feline has already lost 7lbs and is undergoing treatments that will help him build strength, as well as lose weight.

Fat cat Fairytale ending: After being found abandoned, Leo has found a happy new home

The Maine Coon cat now enjoys a happy home life and has claimed his favourite spot under LaTisha’s duvet.

But she won’t be letting him laze around for long.

"We are going to monitor his caloric intake as well as some exercise, playtime and some more strenuous exercise."

King Leo even has his own Facebook page where you can read updates and see pictures of his progress.
