Lucknow, Oct 14, 2014: 13-year-old Twinkle Dwivedi from Lucknow is just another teenager who plays with her friends and loves to watch TV. There’s one thing that sets her apart from teenagers across the world - her rare disease that still doesn’t have a name.
Famously known as the ’girl who cries blood’, Twinkle has developed a condition that defies medical understanding. From the last two years, the girl bleeds spontaneously from her head, hands and feet with no signs of any injury.
The family has run from pillar to post to find a solution but is still clueless. From superstitions about being possessed, seeking advice from religious gurus, to visiting the church to find out if this is the same condition as Jesus’ stigmata, the girl’s parents have found no satisfactory explanation yet.
Her local doctor suggested the family visit AIIMS for further treatment, however they returned disappointed even from one of India’s best hospitals. Most doctors termed her condition as fake and refused to say anything beyond that. The family then met Dr. George Buchanan who flew down to India to find out more about this undiagnosed condition. According to the paediatric haematologist, there may be a problem with her platelets.
